Over the years I’ve heard many complaints from ladies who want to open a small business in their home to help support their family. Maybe it’s a daycare, selling pots and pans, or cosmetics. Anyway you look at it, it’s a small business and some husbands just aren’t supportive of it.

Why you may ask?

Sometimes I think that husbands do not want the trouble that they may think will be caused in their home. They are not interested in the pots and pans sitting in the basement in front of the work bench. Or, the baby in the high chair waiting to be picked up? The fact of the matter is any business you start will involve a commitment on the owner and also will involve some flexibility on the family’s part.

I really think it’s a give and take on everyone’s part. Ladies you need to understand that husbands and children are protective over their things and their space. When your husband is working all day he’s concerned that he’ll have to come home and work there too with feeding babies, helping ship out products, what ever your business may involve.

But on the other hand, it’s also important for the husband to realize that you are earning money for the family and that he should be happy. My husband never complained over the years about my daycare business, and in fact took an active role in running it. He never complained because I was making great money, staying home, raising our twin daughters and last but not least had dinner done when he arrived at night.

Unfortunately not all husbands think this way so it’s your job to emphasize all the great things that will happen because of your home business. And of course realize that your family will need their space so in the beginning just realize this and keep your distance till the money start’s rolling in. They will get the picture.

Once you make the decision to open a profitable daycare, you will need to make sure you have all the necessary equipment and accessories. Starting a daycare can be the best financial move you've ever made, but only if you do things right. That's why you should read this article and check that you have all these pieces of equipment and accessories for your day care center.

Here are 5 "must have" pieces of equipment for your day care:

    1. First aid kit - Kids have a tendency to fall down, to scrape their knees, to run into things, basically to hurt themselves. You need to be prepared. You're not supposed to be a heart surgeon, not even a certified nurse, but you do need to be able to apply a band-aid or some iodine when one of the kids in your daycare hurts himself or herself.

    2. Photos of everyone who can pick the kids up - This is very important. When the day is over and people come to pick up the kids, you need to know who has the right to do so. You must have the photo and name of everyone who can pick up a child before you allow that child to attend your daycare. It is not even safe to rely on the child. For instance, if the child's father comes to pick him up, the child will go with him gladly, but the father and mother may be divorced. Perhaps the father doesn't have visitation rights. Rely on photographs only.

    3. Sleeping mats - children take naps during the day. In many states, this piece of equipment is required. It's also for your benefit, because it gives you a break in the middle of the day. Make sure that what you buy complies with your state's regulations.

    4. Toys - You must have toys for the children to play with. Buy a variety of toys so that each child has something to play with.

    5. Children's books - Children love to be read to and it's also the best way to get them to take an afternoon nap. Be sure to have an assortment of books so the children won't get bored.

Before you start your daycare make sure that you have all these pieces of equipment. Once you have children, make sure to have the photos of people who are allowed to pick them up.
