I get many questions from ladies who are concerned about starting a daycare and they have no business experience. To be very truthful, nine years ago I had no business experience and on top of all things I was a new mother and had really no experience with children.

Was I crazy?

Absolutely not. Starting a daycare in my home was one the best things I have ever done for my family. It allowed me to stay home and raise my twin daughters and make money at the same time. I loved caring for other children as well, it was wonderful to see them grow and develop. Not only was I caring for another family’s child but I was also a part of their family. Many parents over the years have disclosed their lives and have confided in me about their personal situations.

Back to the question at hand, do you need business experience? I would say no. One of the best things you can do in order to discover the world of childcare is to find a mentor. When I first started my daycare I called a family provider in my area and asked if I could come over and ask her some questions. She was happy to tell me everything about her daycare.

Remember, ladies who do daycare are very nurturing individuals who want to help others.

So feel free to ask questions, and remember that you can start out your daycare small. I started with only two children and then I grew from there.

I love family childcare and think it’s a wonderful solution for families and children alike.
